Gentlemen,
Hong Kong Tramways.
In reply to your letter of the 21st ultimo re the cross-section and Details of Tramway Lines, the following is a quotation from a letter addressed by the Colonial Office to Messrs. Dickinson & Co.
"The technical adviser of the Board of Trade reports that the concrete below the rails must extend from rail to rail, and for a distance of eighteen inches outside each rail, and that this concrete should be eight inches thick unless the ground of the reclaimed land is fairly consolidated, and the quality of the concrete is good, in which case the thickness may be reduced to six inches. He further reports that the question, whether the surface concrete should be six inches or three inches must depend upon local conditions, as regards the lightness of traffic in Hong Kong, and upon the ...
